Wedding music has moved

Regular visitors here might notice that my wedding music page has disappeared from the list.

It doesn't mean I've stopped putting my wares on display, but that they've moved to a different shopfront.

There are a few activities that have picked up momentum this year, which has prompted me to finally set up a website with a dedicated domain name.  You can visit it at

www.kierancrichton.com

....or you can just keep looking here for what's happening from week to week.

The new website is my shopfront for wedding enquiries, teaching, workshop facilitation, and so on.  It's the next obvious step to develop this side of my work, which has begun to grow in ways I wouldn't have looked for even twelve months ago.  So, it's all good!

The new arrangement means that the blog can be more of a place where I come to think out loud and post day-to-day stuff, with more specific service-type material going to the other place.

Out and about on Sunday

This week I'm back at All Saints, Northcote.

It's Trinity Sunday again, so lots of music about things that come in groups of three.

 O Lux Beati Trinitas -- J.P. Sweelinck
"St Anne" Fugue in E flat [BWV 552] -- J.S. Bach

Out and about on Sunday

This week I'm playing at St Aloysius, North Caulfield, for Solemn Mass in the morning and Vespers at 3.30pm.

As I mentioned earlier, the services here are in Latin and involve quite a bit of on-the-spot work to cover movements.

Of the moments I can plan, here are the pieces I have planned for the morning service:

Excerpts from Prelude, Adagio, et Chorale Varie sur le theme du "Veni Creator" (Op 4) -- Maurice Durufle

In the afternoon there are really only two moments for the organ.

Komm, Heiliger Geist -- F.W. Zachow
March from Henry V -- William Walton

Nearly there!

There has been an amazing response since I put out the appeal for for funds to hire a chamber organ for the concert in Gardenvale on Sunday 2 June.  Nine donations have been offered for the hire costs, which means that the chamber organ will definitely be featuring in the concert.  We are within $50.00 of the target: a big thanks to our donors!

There is still an opportunity for one or two more donations, so please get in touch if you'd like to help.

Out and about on Sunday

This week I will be playing at All Saints, Northcote.

The parish is keeping Sunday as Ascension, the feast that falls 40 days after Easter (so actually Thursday this week).  In one of the choirs I conducted a few years ago there was a singer who used to refer to this as "shouty Sunday after the feast of thunderous Thursday," given the amount of music that calls for robust dynamics in the repertoire for the feast.

Here's the organ music I have planned for this week:

Lento -- C.V. Stanford
Fanfare -- Kenneth Leighton

Seeking Donors

Planning for the recital on Sunday 2 June is well-advanced, and I'm hoping to post the program here shortly.

In the meantime, here's a taster of one piece.

The video above helps to explain what this is all about.

For those who don't want to watch, here's the story.

The engagement for our forthcoming recital was paired with the one we played at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo, in March.  It was expected that we would repeat much of the programme from March in the June concert.

We would love to repeat our arrangement of Johann Kuhnau's Sonata on the Combat between David and Goliath.  This piece ended up involving two organs, trumpet, and audience percussion, and was far-and-away the highlight of the day.

It was also reviewed very enthusiastically in the forthcoming Organ Australia.

To repeat it for the concert in Gardenvale we need to hire a chamber organ.  This costs money.

Some funding has been made available, so we're nearly there, but we still need to raise $500.

This is where you can be part of this very special musical performance.

We are seeking ten donors to offer $50.00 each. Three five six NINE donors have come forward already.

Each donor will receive four free passes to the concert, and you will be acknowledged in the concert program booklet.

Because the recital is a joint venture between Bayside City Council and the Early Arts Guild, you will also receive acknowledgement on the City Council website and through the EAG Newsletter.
If you would like to help, please contact me via the comment box on this post.

Late in the season, but...

Out and about on Sunday

This Sunday I'm playing for Solemn Mass at St Aloysius, Caulfield.  This is a personal parish dedicated to the celebration of the older Catholic rites, which means I will be enjoying the opportunity to brush up my choral Latin in order to follow the service.

As well as the usual prelude and postlude duties, there are a lot of incidental movements or transitions in the service that call for accompaniment by the organ.  Here's what I have planned for those moments I am able to plan.

Festival Procession -- Paul Bryan
Ricercare -- Johann Pachelbel
Toccata Decima -- Georg Muffat
